I love being a high school senior photographer. It helps me stay young, haha! Even when I was young, I don't think I was half as cool as this senior guy. From his Vans shoes to his Ray-ban sunglasses, he coolness was overflowing.
About the session-
Ok, if I had a car like this, I'd want photos with it too! I don't think my VW Jetta would be quite as impressive as this senior's Chevy. I had originally photographed his brother's wedding in 2019. When it was time for his senior photos, I got the text (yay!) This senior boy had only a few location requests and they were simple...fall colors & a spot for his car. I think we nailed it.
What I loved about this senior session was the preparation. Most seniors don't think about getting their photos taken until Spring time and then they are under a time crunch to get prints ordered and sent out. Taking your high school senior photos in the fall is a great idea because 1) you get gorgeous fall colors and 2) no time crunch! When did high school seniors become so cool? I remember being slightly awkward and wore sweats way too often. His Ray-bans, Vans shoes and Chevy make one cool teenager. I put mom in some photos at the very end because I loved their loving & joking relationship.
My most favorite photos of my dad are his senior photos. They are the hilariously classic sepia tone in a studio images. He's wearing a suit and resting his arms on a stack of books. Cheesy? Most definitely but I absolutely love these photos! I'm so glad his mom made him get his picture taken. I think you'll feel the exact same way years down the road when your future children find your senior photos.
About the location-
Wheeler Historic Farm is a perfect backdrop for any type of session. This senior boy session only had two necessities, fall colors and a spot for his tricked-out car. We could have driven through a nearby canyon or windy road but the simplicity of Wheeler Farm was so appealing. We literally shot this entire session in the parking lot. Yes, you heard that right. We were in the parking lot the whole time. This session is what sparked my goal to shoot a Parking Lot Series. I loved the idea of shooting in less popular and unassuming locations.
If you're coming to visit just for fun, Wheeler Historic Farm is open from dusk to dawn. It has over 70 beautiful acres to roam and adventure. You can hang out with all the animals on the farm. My favorites are the goats.
If you want to use Wheeler Historic Farm as your family photo backdrop, there are so many options to choose from. Obviously, the parking lot is surprisingly stunning. There is old farm machinery, tractors, barns, trails, bridges, open fields and so much more to choose from. Wheeler Farm is a great choice for your next photo session. As a Salt Lake photographer, I'm very appreciative of Wheeler Farm's beauty!
