I understand that the writer’s block is real, and once you hit it, there’s a ton of confusion. Even more so when you are writing your wedding vows, well, I can relate to the daunting feeling and obnoxious pressure that builds on you.
One thing I know for sure is that once you are standing at the altar, looking at the love of your life, all your confusion will disappear. The words will automatically start to come out of your mouth. But, to be on the safe side, you should still take tips on how to write wedding vows, because I suggest not leaving a single dry eye when you read your vows.
From expert tips to recent trends, I will help you craft the ‘perfect’ wedding vows.
Take Notes
- Reminiscing your relationship memories and jotting them down on paper can help a lot. It is essential to take some time and think about the glorious moments you have spent with your partner. Even if it was not love at first sight, think about how the two of you first met. Think about the transition from being just friends to deciding to spend the rest of your lives with each other.
- It is also crucial that you get your creative gears turning while recalling special moments. Jot down every single thing you have done together. To avoid being cheesy, remember how the two of you managed to get out of hard times together and how much you supported each other. Be sure to tick the right boxes, and it will guarantee tons of emotions flowing through.
Say 'I Love You'
- You would be shocked to hear that a wedding officiates once said that she was surprised about how many couples missed saying ‘I love you’ to each other during their wedding vows. It should be evident that these three words hold significant importance.
Don't Forget to Promise
- There is a reason we call it ‘wedding vows.’ Promises play an essential role. Not only can you instill reassurance, but you can also add humor to it, such as, ‘I promise to watch your favorite show with you, even though I don’t like it one bit.’
Avoid being Cliché
- Important vow alert! Avoid clichés of all sorts, such as ‘love is blind.’ Do not copy someone else by letting their words overpower your feelings. Your wedding vows will amount to nothing if you copy them from another source and do not relate to your partner’s feelings. Even if you are running out of ideas, just keep inspiration from a cliché quote and then twist it to your advantage.
Acknowledge the Support
- It’s all fun and games until you realize it’s not only you and your partner present at the wedding. There are witnesses present during your vows, those of who are friends and family. So, acknowledge their support because they will be there with you when things get rough. You may have needed them before getting tying the knot, but you will also need them even after the marriage, for good times or worse.
Practice, practice, and practice
- It’s a big day, and if you’re anywhere near close to being a shy person, you may want to practice it beforehand. When you practice it, not only do you gain the confidence to speak it on the big day, but you also make room for some meaningful eleventh-hour corrections.
That’s about it...
What are you waiting for? Muster up the courage, fill your heart with the memories you have shared with your partner, and finally, pen the most intimate and joyous moments to paper.

About this session:
Dress: David's Bridal
Location: Zion National Park
McKenzie and Tristin made a special trip down to Southern Utah for their wedding photos. McKenzie had written a beautiful letter for her husband-to-be to read while he waited for her to get into her gown. The red rock was absolutely stunning as a backdrop.
*Insider tip- The bottom of McKenzie's gown got red sand stain and these photos were taken before their wedding day. However, she contacted a dry cleaner that would clean just the bottom part of her dress back to it's originally glory. This saved money and kept her gown bright and white. This is a great example of why you should hire a professional photographer for your wedding...me, because I've seen it all and know how to help direct you through your wedding story.
