Winter weddings in Utah can be a wonderful relief from the harsh summer weather. Winter weddings mean a lot of wind, snow, and sub-zero temperatures. Many couples prefer winter weddings because the schedule is less busy and vendors tend to have more availability.
Winter here can hardly surprise you as well, as the weather is always snowy and cold. Although it is snowy and cold, as a Utah wedding photographer, I will show you a few tips to help you stay warm during the wedding.
-
Dress for the occasion
Weddings are an opportunity for the couple especially the bride to look beautiful. But you can look beautiful and stay warm! I recommend getting long sleeves to help protect your hands from frost and the chills that come with the weather.
You should also consider hand warmers because they are a wonderful way to stay warm in your winter wedding. If your wedding will be outdoors, you should offer your guests hand warmers. If you are having an indoor wedding, you will also need hand warmers. At some point in the wedding, you will need a professional wedding photographer like me to take some wonderful shots.
Boots are also ideal to keep the cold in check as well as thick tights beneath your dress.
-
Right place at the right time
In choosing the right venue for your winter wedding, you need to consider certain things. You need a place that is warm inside and has enough space for guests to park their cars in the snow. Also, get a place with beautiful scenery so you can capture images worth a lifetime.
-
Your guests need blankets
If everything else fails to keep the cold away, I doubt blankets will fail. Blankets are the easiest way to maintain warmth even if it is an outdoor wedding. All you need to do is have someone in charge of the blankets in a basket.
-
Consider travel time
What happens when you have a snowstorm and your initial plans get disrupter? I would suggest that you get yourself a shovel and enough time ahead of schedule. There is always the possibility of walking out to find your car stuck unable to move. Having a shovel will help remove the snow.
It would be disastrous shoveling snow from your wheel while waiting for the engine to heat thirty minutes to your wedding. Get a head start by shoveling the snow and letting your engine heat up for several minutes before heating the road. Besides, don't be too much in a hurry, drive with care!
-
Proper lighting
The sunsets quicker during winter. Hence, if you want to have your wedding photos shot by me outdoors, I suggest we do it at least an hour before sunset. The natural lighting has a way of giving the images a touch of heaven. As such, you need to have the wedding done earlier.
-
Candles and fireplace
While choosing a venue, note that not all have a fireplace. The ones that come with a fireplace are always cozy in cold weather. If your chosen venue does not have a fireplace, you should light up the room with candles. Candles have a romantic appeal and will give the space some warmth.
-
Hot drinks
Hot tea, hot chocolate, hot milk can all create warmth for your guests. Even if you decide on having your wedding indoors, your guests will still come from outside.
Winter weddings are beautiful, images taken in such weddings turn out to be masterpieces. But we can't ignore the cold which is why we have to take precautions. A winter wedding shouldn't be about survival, it should be about fun, excitement, and creating memories. Why don't you let me help you capture the fun and excitement of your winter wedding?!
