In the years I have covered weddings as a Utah photographer, I have observed that couples often leave the details till the last minute. Chances are that you could by a stroke of luck get everything in order within a week, but you do not want to leave your wedding to chances!
Getting organized as a first-time bride will give you enough reason to enjoy your honeymoon at the end of it all. In this post, I will show you a few things you can do to be ready for the big day even if it is your first time walking down the aisle.

Right after the proposal
The man of your dreams popped the big question and you said "yes!" But then, it all begins to run through your mind, the details, where will the wedding be? What would be on the menu? Who would cover the wedding? One thing I have noticed among first-time brides is that they always get carried away by the euphoria and assume there is enough time.
The perfect wedding begins a whole year before the day. Start by agreeing on a date with your partner. Choose a day that doesn't clash with your other activities. Also, make sure you have a budget in place. This budget will guide your spending and make sure you don’t miss the most important things.
Check-in your vendors such as the venue, caterer, live band or DJ, and of course a reliable photographer like me! Make sure you begin scouting for the perfect wedding dress also.
As you start your vendor search, personally, I'd pick my venue first and then immediately book a wedding photographer. I mean, ideally, you'd pick me ;)
9 months before the day
As the clock ticks, the wedding becomes more real. At this point, you need to make sure certain things are in order. You need to confirm the color palette while also ensuring that invitations are being readied.
Also, ensure that you set up the gift registry while also scheduling the engagement photographs with your wedding photographer (it's me, right?!) You need to make arrangements for the perfect honeymoon destination. Your honeymoon destination should be a location where your granny won't be able to drop by to say hi.
6 months before the day
With six months to go, there is a chance that you will begin to feel jittery about your preparations. At this point, you should have taken care of the other aspects.
Begin to send save the dates while you order the necessary things.
Order flowers that flow with the proposed theme of your wedding. Confirm the color and design of your venue to know the type of cake and flowers to order. While at this, you should take a trip to the closest jewelry shop to get wedding rings. Note that you will be wearing these rings for a long time, so choose something comfortable and cute.
4 months before the day
If you have made it to this point, it means you need to take your wedding planning a gear higher. With a few months to your wedding, you need to start thinking of the type of music you want you and your guests to be rocking too. You should have a playlist that should serve the whole day compiled in advance.
Also, what’s a wedding without a bachelor/bachelorette party? You should assign friends to help plan the party. You could check in with them to be sure that the necessary things such as transport and venue are in order.
8 weeks before the day
With eight weeks to go, it is time for you to begin sending your wedding invitations. To make this easier, you could compile a list of people you want at your wedding, you may also add people you don't want there (you don't want that crazy old exacting as a wedding crasher).
Proceed to get a marriage license while you check in with the vendors. Buy the needed décor while you schedule the bridal portrait session with me your favorite Utah wedding photographer! This is a great time to double-check that your dress fits properly and a trial run with your flowers, hair and make-up. Make sure your wedding vows are in order also.
1 month before the day
With one month to walk down the aisle, you may as well store the Champaign in your fridge! Begin to finalize your seating arrangements (You may tweak the seats to have your best friend sit with the cutest guy on the list).
Ready the thank you notes and ensure the honeymoon bookings are in order. Also, if you intend to do it outdoors, you need to have a hot weather contingency plan in place.
7 days
I recommend that you begin to make final preparations for the success of the wedding. Begin to check in with everyone handling one aspect of the wedding or the other. Forward the final count of guests expected to the caterer. Confirm the delivery time for the day and make the finishing touches to your vows.
Double-check the due dates for your vendors. IAs your wedding photographer, ask for final payment one week before you wedding day. This ensures that you won't have to worry about paying vendors on the day of your wedding when you should be focused on other more important things...your groom...
24 hours before the day
This is the scariest part of the whole process. You begin to doubt if everything is in order, some brides even consider running away. But there isn't anything to get scared about. Make sure you have over the vendor checks and rings to the best man. Also, make sure you get hydrated while you get your nails done.
Having invested over a year into this wedding, you need to have all the important memories captured. That is why you need me! I will capture each moment as they occur without coming in the way of the “you may kiss the bride.”
